Major Fire Accident at Yadadri Thermal Power Plant
A fire broke out on Sunday afternoon at the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) located near Veerlapalem in Damarcharla mandal of Nalgonda district, triggering brief panic among workers after thick smoke was seen rising from the facility.
The incident occurred around 12:30 PM in the third unit of the recently commissioned plant. Eyewitness accounts said dense black smoke quickly spread within the premises, prompting immediate emergency response from on-site personnel.
Firefighting teams were swiftly deployed after the alert was raised. A total of six fire engines , including one from Miryalaguda and five from the plant’s internal safety system, were pressed into service. The flames were brought under control within a short time, preventing the situation from escalating further.
Authorities confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries reported in the incident. Preliminary observations suggest that a short circuit in the electrical system may have triggered the fire, though a detailed investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause.
Officials have also begun assessing the extent of damage to electrical cables and other infrastructure in the affected unit.
The Yadadri facility is one of Telangana’s major thermal power projects, comprising five generating units of 800 MW capacity each . Officials noted that quick response measures helped avert a potentially serious industrial accident at the site.
