Major Drug Bust In Manipur: 5 kg Heroin Seized, Three Held
Security forces in Manipur have arrested three persons and seized over 5 kg of heroin in Churachandpur district , as authorities intensify crackdowns on narcotics trafficking amid the region’s prolonged unrest.
According to a police statement issued on Saturday, the arrests were made in Bolkot village under Singngat police station limits following specific inputs. The accused have been identified as Nengmuanlal and Ginlamthang Guite , both residents of M Buangmun village , and Hangkhanlian , who is reportedly based in Gurgaon, Haryana .
Police said 5.43 kg of heroin was recovered from their possession during the operation.
Officials noted that the latest seizure comes against the backdrop of continuing ethnic tensions and law-and-order challenges in Manipur, particularly in hill districts such as Churachandpur. The unrest has strained administrative resources and, according to security agencies, created vulnerabilities that drug trafficking networks may attempt to exploit. Authorities have stepped up surveillance along key routes, citing concerns that instability could be leveraged for cross-border smuggling activities.
In a related development earlier this week, police on April 20 arrested a 28-year-old man from Saidan village in the same district and recovered 11.7 kg of raw opium from his residence. The back-to-back seizures highlight what officials describe as a persistent narcotics threat in the region.
Manipur shares porous borders with Myanmar, a known hub in the Golden Triangle , making it a sensitive corridor for drug trafficking. Security agencies say they are maintaining heightened vigilance to prevent the flow of contraband and to curb the financing of illegal networks during the ongoing crisis.
Investigations into both cases are underway, and police have not ruled out the possibility of wider interstate or cross-border links.
