Netflix has released the first look of its upcoming coming-of-age dance comedy 'Best of the Best', starring Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia in the lead roles. The film, directed by Lena Khan, is set in the highly competitive world of collegiate Bollywood-fusion dance in the United States and is scheduled to premiere on September 18.
Written by Prashanth Venkataramanujam and comedian Hasan Minhaj, the story follows Maya (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and Anjali (Priyanka Kedia), two childhood friends who join UCLA's Bollywood-fusion dance team with dreams of winning the prestigious U.S. Championship. As they work toward their shared goal, fierce competition, personal ambition, and the pressure to succeed begin to strain their close friendship, forcing them to confront difficult choices both on and off the dance floor.
The film features an ensemble cast including Ankur Rathee, Janina Gavankar, Chaneil Kular, Becky Alex, Shreya Navile, Hasan Minhaj, Lilly Singh, Nihar Duvvuri, Nico Greetham, Amryn Khurana, Tanishq Joshi, Saara Chaudry, and Sasha Bhasin.
In addition to co-writing the screenplay, Prashanth Venkataramanujam and Hasan Minhaj also serve as producers. Jonathan Eirich is producing the film for Rideback, while Ellen H. Schwartz and Ryan Halprin are executive producers.
The project marks another collaboration between Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Netflix following her breakout performance in the acclaimed series 'Never Have I Ever', created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher. For Priyanka Kedia, the film represents one of her biggest screen appearances to date.
Blending friendship, cultural identity, dance, and youthful ambition, 'Best of the Best' promises an energetic coming-of-age story that celebrates passion, teamwork, and perseverance.
