Mahavir’s Ideals Continue to Guide Humanity: Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Mahavira, leaders across India highlighted the continued significance of his teachings, emphasizing values such as non-violence , truth , and compassion .

Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, president of the YSR Congress Party and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, took part in Mahavir Jayanti celebrations at the party’s central office in Tadepalli on Tuesday. He offered floral tributes and noted that Mahavira’s teachings hold great relevance in today’s society.

In a message posted on social media, Jagan said the five principles advocated by Mahavira—non-violence, truth, non-stealing, celibacy, and non-possessiveness—serve as a moral compass for humanity. He stated that these ideals continue to inspire ethical living and guide society on the right path. He also extended his greetings to the Jain community.

The event was attended by several party leaders, including former minister R. K. Roja, along with other members.

Across the country, Mahavir Jayanti was observed with devotion and enthusiasm. President Droupadi Murmu extended her wishes, calling upon citizens to strive for a more peaceful and inclusive society, and described Mahavira’s teachings as enduring symbols of humanity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid homage, stating that Mahavira’s life continues to illuminate the path of truth, non-violence, and compassion in the modern world.

Special prayers and spiritual programmes were held at Jain temples across India and abroad to mark the birth anniversary of Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism.
