In a record seizure at the police-station level, Mumbra police on Monday recovered 13.629 kg of mephedrone valued at Rs 27.21 crore , busting a major interstate drug supply chain stretching from Madhya Pradesh to Thane. Five people were arrested, including four from Madhya Pradesh , all of whom are history sheeters with prior cases under the NDPS Act, IPC, and Arms Act .

The operation began following a tip-off that led the Mumbra NDPS squad to lay a trap near a hospital, where Basu Umardin Sayed was caught with 23.5 grams of mephedrone. Interrogation revealed his suppliers: Ram Singh Amar Singh Gujjar (40) and Kailash Shambhulalji Balai (36) from Madhya Pradesh, from whom 3.51 kg of mephedrone worth Rs 7.3 crore was seized.

Subsequently, a Mumbra police team travelled to Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh and arrested Manohar Lal Ranglal Gujjar and Riyazmohammad Sultanmohammad Mansuri alias Raju , recovering 9.95 kg of mephedrone valued at Rs 19.91 crore .

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Subhash Burse described the seizure as the largest ever at the police-station level under Thane Police Commissionerate , highlighting the squad’s intelligence and coordination in disrupting a well-established interstate narcotics network.

Since January 2024, the NDPS squad of Mumbra police has seized narcotics worth Rs 48.5 crore in 954 operations , with this single haul accounting for more than half of the total value.
