Maharashtra leaders, national figures honour Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his birth anniversary at Shivneri Fort in Pune on Thursday, where the 17th‑century Maratha ruler was born. The celebrations marked the legacy of the king who established the Maratha Empire and championed Hindavi Swarajya, laying foundations for self-rule, governance reforms, and military innovations.

The leaders participated in the traditional 'cradle ceremony' , symbolising Shivaji Maharaj’s birth and naming rituals, and offered floral tributes as thousands of devotees gathered at the fort in Junnar tehsil . The festivities also featured cultural performances, dhol‑tasha processions, and devotional chants reflecting the enduring reverence for the Maratha king. Three devotees sustained minor injuries amid overcrowding, but officials swiftly managed the situation.

Beyond Maharashtra, Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary was celebrated across India. In Telangana , grand processions were held in Hyderabad, Nirmal and other regions, with youths in traditional attire and local leaders paying homage. Karnataka witnessed cultural programs and rallies in Vijayapura, while in Uttar Pradesh , events at Agra Fort included public gatherings and commemorative performances. The day also saw tributes from central government representatives and national leaders, highlighting Shivaji Maharaj’s enduring influence on Indian history.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled an equestrian statue of the Maratha king in Gandhinagar, Gujarat , highlighting Shivaji Maharaj’s enduring influence on youth and future generations. Other central leaders also acknowledged his historic contributions on the occasion.

Shivaji Maharaj, born in 1630, is remembered for his valor, governance, fortification strategies, naval power, and welfare initiatives, which continue to inspire generations.
