Maharashtra Govt Launches MahaChatur AI Chatbot For Skills And Jobs

The Maharashtra government has launched an AI-powered chatbot named ‘MahaChatur’ , aimed at creating a unified digital platform for skill development, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurship support for the state’s youth. The initiative was unveiled by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who described it as a transformative step in connecting education with employment .

Developed by the Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department in collaboration with the Right Walk Foundation, MahaChatur is designed as a conversational AI assistant that simplifies access to multiple government and industry-linked services. The platform operates on government servers using open-source AI technology , ensuring both accessibility and data security.

A key feature of MahaChatur is its availability through WhatsApp-based access , allowing users from both rural and urban areas to interact easily without requiring any specialised application. The chatbot is designed to respond in a simple conversational format, helping users explore skill training programmes, job opportunities, apprenticeship schemes, and entrepreneurship guidance in one place.

The platform also provides support for application processes, eligibility checks, assessments, and market linkages , making it a comprehensive digital guide for youth. It integrates apprenticeship registration under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and the Maharashtra Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (MAPS) , reducing processing time significantly from two to three days to nearly 15 minutes .

Officials said MahaChatur will serve as a one-stop solution for employment-linked services , bridging the gap between job seekers and industry requirements. It is expected to help industries access a skilled workforce more efficiently , while also ensuring that youth receive training aligned with market demand.

During the launch event, Fadnavis highlighted India’s demographic advantage, noting that nearly 65% of the population is under the age of 35 , making skill development critical for economic growth. He said the chatbot will act as a digital bridge between education and employment , easing the transition for young people entering the workforce.

The government also emphasised that AI, while likely to disrupt certain job roles , will simultaneously create new employment opportunities. The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen Maharashtra’s skill ecosystem through centres of excellence, ITI modernisation, women’s participation, and global partnerships .

Additionally, MoUs were signed with several organisations, including international and industry partners, to expand collaboration in women’s training, data security, prison skill development, and youth employment programmes .

Overall, MahaChatur is expected to improve transparency, efficiency, and access to government skill services , while creating a more connected ecosystem between youth, industry, and employment opportunities across Maharashtra.
