Maharashtra congress blasts govt over rising threats to bollywood stars
The Opposition Congress on Friday launched a strong attack on the Maharashtra government, alleging that law and order in the state, including Mumbai, has deteriorated sharply , with high-profile threats to Bollywood celebrities Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Rohit Shetty from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang .
Speaking to a news channel, Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe said the state government is “short of ideas” and is unable to take strict action, focusing instead on Hindu-Muslim debates rather than addressing unemployment, inflation, and women’s safety .
“We have a so-called powerful chief minister, who is also serving as the home minister. It is his responsibility. Law and order is deteriorating not only in Mumbai but also in his hometown Nagpur,” Londhe said.
Earlier this week, Ranveer Singh reportedly received a threat via WhatsApp from unidentified individuals, while an unidentified shooter fired five rounds at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Juhu . A member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the shooting.
Londhe further highlighted that threats against stars like Salman Khan and Ranveer Singh, and incidents such as shots fired at Khan’s residence, demonstrate the government’s failure to tackle criminal elements . He pointed out that while security agencies and police are investigating Bishnoi’s role, it remains unclear how the gangster continues to operate from prison .
“He (Bishnoi) is in prison, and you are in power and controlling the prison, yet he is able to carry out these crimes. Whose failure is this? It is completely the failure of Devendra Fadnavis and the Maharashtra government,” Londhe said.
The Congress leader contrasted the current situation with its own tenure, claiming that the party had previously taken strict action against extortion rackets and dismantled underworld gangs in Mumbai. He accused the government of being ineffective , prioritising political debates over pressing public issues.
