Maharashtra breaks world record, Boosts rural irrigation

In a positive boost to India’s clean-energy transition, Maharashtra has entered the Guinness World Records by installing 45,911 solar agricultural pumps in just 30 days under the state’s “Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump” scheme. The large-scale rollout has not only transformed irrigation access for farmers but also placed the state on the global renewable-energy map.

Among the strongest performers in this milestone effort was Nagpur-based cleantech company Rite Water Solutions , which delivered 2,497 solar pump installations during the record-setting month, remarkable for a company that entered the solar pumping sector less than two years ago. With over 25,000 installations now completed across Maharashtra and Rajasthan, Rite Water has quickly emerged as one of the fastest-scaling players in the field.

The solar pumps provide farmers with reliable daytime irrigation , free from erratic grid supply and rising diesel costs. This shift is also easing pressure on the state’s rural power network. By moving agricultural load to decentralized solar systems, DISCOMs are able to cut power purchase costs, reduce transmission losses , and improve the overall health of the rural grid.

The record achievement required extensive coordination, with engineers and field teams working across remote villages often in challenging terrain to meet the tight 30-day deadline.

Beyond solar pumps, Rite Water Solutions has a strong presence in drinking water purification, wastewater treatment , and rural IoT platforms across more than 25,000 villages . The company now plans to expand into more states and integrate technologies such as smart water management, remote monitoring , and predictive maintenance to deliver wider value in rural areas.
