
Lucknow to launch India’s first homegrown BrahMos batch
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will flag off the first batch of BrahMos missiles manufactured at the BrahMos Aerospace unit in Lucknow's Sarojini Nagar on Saturday. Officials said the event marks a significant milestone for the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) and strengthens India’s resolve for self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
About the Lucknow BrahMos Facility
The BrahMos Aerospace unit in Lucknow has successfully produced the first batch of the supersonic missile system at its new integration and test facility. This state-of-the-art unit became fully operational after its inauguration on May 11, 2025. Equipped with advanced infrastructure for missile assembly, integration, testing, and quality checks, the facility ensures each missile meets strict technical standards before deployment to the Indian Armed Forces.
It is the first facility in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor where the entire missile production process, from manufacturing to final testing, is carried out indigenously, highlighting the state’s growing role in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
During the flag-off ceremony, the Defence Minister and Chief Minister will inaugurate the booster building and witness the booster docking process. Presentations on the missile airframe and avionics, pre-dispatch inspection (PDI) in the warhead building, and BrahMos simulator demonstrations are also planned.
Other activities at the event will include a tree plantation drive, a storage trolley demonstration, a GST revenue presentation, and a demonstration of the mobile autonomous launcher. The facility’s operations are expected to generate sustained GST revenue for Uttar Pradesh and create employment opportunities for highly skilled youth.
About the BrahMos Missile
BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile developed jointly by India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyenia. Known for its speed, precision, and versatility, it can be launched from land, sea, air, and submarines.

The Lucknow facility is designed to produce 80-100 BrahMos missiles annually, with plans to scale up to 100-150 next-generation variants. This strengthens India’s defence capabilities, reduces dependence on foreign suppliers, and contributes to the “Make in India, Make for the World” initiative.
The BrahMos missile system provides India with a strategic advantage in modern warfare due to its speed, precision, and flexibility across multiple platforms. The Lucknow unit’s end-to-end indigenous production ensures a reliable, self-sufficient supply for the Indian Armed Forces.
