L&T wins major Middle East contracts in power transmission

Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Monday announced that its power transmission and distribution (PT&D) vertical has secured multiple large-scale grid infrastructure orders in the Middle East.

According to L&T’s project classification, a ‘large’ order is valued between ₹2,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore. The orders include key projects that will enhance electricity reliability, cross-border power sharing, and renewable energy integration in the region.

One of the major projects involves the 400 kV super grid interconnection linking the electricity networks of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states, which aims to optimise generation capacity and improve overall grid resilience. Currently, the Sultanate of Oman’s network is connected to this interconnection via the UAE grid at 220 kV. L&T has been awarded the contract to engineer, procure, and construct a direct 400 kV substation in the UAE, which will facilitate a more robust interconnection at the 400 kV level.

In addition, L&T has won an order to construct a series of new 132 kV substations in the Middle East to cater to growing electricity demand. In Saudi Arabia, the company has secured a contract for the turnkey construction of 380 kV overhead transmission lines, supporting the integration of renewable energy power plants into the regional grid.

L&T, a USD 30 billion Indian multinational, operates across engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects, hi-tech manufacturing, and services in multiple geographies. Its ongoing Middle East engagements reinforce its role in developing high-voltage transmission infrastructure and advancing renewable energy integration across the GCC region.

The projects are expected to enhance electricity reliability, facilitate efficient power sharing, and support the region’s renewable energy goals, marking a strategic step in the ongoing development of the Middle East’s power infrastructure network.
