Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive review of the security situation and operational preparedness of forces deployed in Kashmir, with a focus on the hinterland areas of North Kashmir.

According to a statement issued by the Indian Army, Lt Gen Sharma visited multiple formations and units, where he was briefed by senior field commanders on the prevailing security environment and ongoing counter-terror operations. Discussions during the visit also emphasised inter-agency coordination , highlighting the importance of seamless synergy among the Army, local police, and other security agencies in maintaining stability in the region.

The Army Commander commended the troops for their professionalism, vigilance, and sustained commitment in countering threats and ensuring a secure environment. He acknowledged their role in keeping the region largely free from terrorist activity while supporting efforts to maintain peace and normalcy.

Kashmir, particularly the northern districts along the Line of Control (LoC), has historically witnessed infiltration attempts and militant activity , often supported by cross-border elements. Over the past few years, security forces have intensified counter-insurgency operations , resulting in a decline in large-scale attacks, though sporadic incidents and attempts to disrupt peace continue.

Regular high-level reviews by senior commanders are considered crucial to assess preparedness, boost troop morale, and adapt strategies in response to evolving security challenges. The latest visit comes amid continued efforts by security forces to consolidate gains against militancy and ensure long-term stability in the Valley.
