A rare and striking case from Madhya Pradesh’s Satna Central Jail has drawn widespread attention after Assistant Jail Superintendent Firoza Khatoon married released murder convict Dharmendra Singh , in a relationship that reportedly began within prison walls and later culminated in a traditional wedding ceremony involving Bajrang Dal members.

Dharmendra Singh, originally from Chhatarpur district, was convicted in a 2007 murder case and sentenced to life imprisonment. During his incarceration at Satna Central Jail, he was assigned routine prison duties, where he came into regular administrative contact with Firoza Khatoon, who served as part of the jail’s supervisory and warrant management system.

What began as routine official interaction is said to have gradually evolved into a quiet emotional connection , shaped by years of proximity within the structured confines of the prison environment. Singh was later released after serving a substantial portion of his sentence, following remission granted for good conduct .

After his release, the relationship reportedly continued away from the prison setting. Despite family opposition and social pressure , the bond between the two strengthened over time, eventually leading them to formalise their relationship.

The couple’s wedding was held with Hindu rituals and traditional ceremonies , marking an unusual interfaith union that has since become a subject of public discussion. In a notable development, Bajrang Dal members reportedly participated in the event and assisted in performing parts of the wedding rituals, including the kanyadaan ceremony , which traditionally holds symbolic importance in Hindu marriages.

The marriage has sparked mixed reactions. While some view it as a story of rehabilitation, emotional transformation, and second chances , others have raised concerns over the ethical boundaries of relationships formed within correctional institutions , especially involving authority figures. Authorities have not issued any disciplinary statement so far.
