Lokesh Kanagaraj's Acting Debut 'DC' Gets A- Certificate Ahead of August 7 Release

Director Lokesh Kanagaraj is just weeks away from taking on his biggest career transformation. After redefining Tamil cinema with blockbusters like Kaithi , Master , Vikram , Leo , and Coolie , the filmmaker is now stepping into the spotlight as a full fledged leading man in DC , an intense romantic action drama directed by Arun Matheswaran .

Ahead of its theatrical release, DC has officially completed its CBFC formalities and has been awarded an 'A' (Adults Only) certificate. The film will now arrive in cinemas worldwide on August 7, 2026 , after being postponed by a week from its original July 31 release date.

The adult rating comes as no surprise. Ever since its blood soaked trailer premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2026 , the film has grabbed attention for its brutal action, stylized violence and emotionally charged romance. The trailer introduced Lokesh in a never seen before avatar, showcasing intense action sequences, romance and a gritty screen presence that immediately became a talking point among fans.

DC now joins Vijay's Jana Nayagan and Demonte Colony 3 among the latest Tamil films to receive an 'A' certificate, reflecting a growing trend of filmmakers opting to preserve their original vision instead of trimming intense sequences for a lower rating.

Produced by Sun Pictures , the film stars Lokesh Kanagaraj as Devadas and Wamiqa Gabbi as Chandra , with the title DC derived from the names of their characters. The supporting cast includes Sanjana Krishnamoorthy , while Anirudh Ravichander composes the music, marking his fifth collaboration with Lokesh and first with Arun Matheswaran. Cinematography is handled by Mukesh Gnanesh , with editing by Prasanna GK .

The film has also generated buzz with its promotional material, including the romantic track "Hangova" and earlier glimpses like "Bloody Valentine," both of which received a positive response from audiences ahead of release.
