LIV Golf is seeking to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy with financing and a player ownership structure for 2027, while players face key decisions.

BC Partners Credit has announced an initial investment as part of a $300 million financing package for LIV Golf. LIV CEO Scott O'Neil described the investment as a step toward the league's next phase. The funding remains subject to approval by the US Bankruptcy Court and is intended to support the league through restructuring.

Under the LIV 2.0 structure, players would receive 52.5 per cent ownership of the restructured league, along with team equity, signing bonuses and certain name, image and likeness rights. The planned 2027 season would have 10 tournaments, half at international venues.

LIV filed for Chapter 11 protection on September 8 after the Saudi Public Investment Fund withdrew further funding following the 2026 season. PIF had provided more than $5 billion since the league launched in 2022.

The restructuring has left player positions unresolved. Sergio Garcia has asked the court to clarify whether his LIV contract ended with the filing or whether he can terminate it.

Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton and Joaquin Niemann are among players whose positions for 2027 remain under discussion. Niemann has said he has not signed for the new season, while Hatton’s DP World Tour arrangement applies to 2026.

Adrian Meronk, who won the Dunhill Links Championship on Sunday, secured DP World Tour status for 2027. He has said the LIV situation remains difficult to assess as players consider their options.

The PGA Tour has not announced a new route for LIV players to return to its competitions. Chief executive Brian Rolapp has said the Tour was not considering another programme similar to the one used for Brooks Koepka and other returning players.

The restructuring support agreement extends the deadline for LIV players to commit to LIV 2.0 to October 25.

LIV is preparing for bankruptcy hearings, with the first of proceedings scheduled this week.
