Lionel Messi Scores 100th Inter Miami Goal As Miami Beat Cruz Azul To Win Campeones Cup
Lionel Messi reached another landmark in his remarkable Inter Miami career on Wednesday, scoring his 100th goal for the club as Miami defeated Cruz Azul 2-0 to lift the Campeones Cup.
Messi opened the scoring in the 24th minute, heading in a cross from longtime Barcelona teammate Luis Suárez. The goal came in his 115th appearance for Inter Miami across all competitions, taking him to the century mark.
There was an added sense of symmetry to the milestone. Cruz Azul was also the opponent when Messi scored his first goal for Inter Miami in July 2023. On that occasion, he produced a dramatic stoppage-time free kick to give Miami a 2-1 victory on his debut.
More than three years later, Messi again found the net against the Mexican side, this time helping Inter Miami secure another piece of silverware.
Casemiro sealed the victory in the 81st minute, heading home a corner delivered by Messi. The Brazilian midfielder has been in impressive scoring form, with four goals in his last five matches, all coming from headers.
The Campeones Cup adds another trophy to an increasingly decorated Inter Miami era since Messi arrived in 2023. The club won the Leagues Cup in 2023, followed by the Supporters' Shield in 2024 and the MLS Cup in 2025.
Messi's latest milestone therefore arrived alongside another title, underlining how dramatically the Argentine's arrival has changed the club's fortunes. What began with a memorable debut goal against Cruz Azul has now reached the 100-goal mark against the same opponent, with another trophy added to the collection.
