Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has called upon workers’ unions to collaborate with the government to protect the State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) and steer it towards profitability. He made these remarks during a detailed meeting held on Friday evening at his residence with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and representatives of various RTC workers’ unions. The Chief Minister expressed happiness over meeting labour leaders on the occasion of May Day .

On the occasion, he suggested preparing a comprehensive action plan to strengthen the organisation by enhancing coordination between the RTC management, employees, and unions. He advised that all unions should hold discussions and arrive at a consensus on key issues such as recognised union elections and RTC merger . If a consensus is not reached, each union may submit its proposals separately, and the government would consider the common aspects among them. He also assured that the government would resolve the issue of Pension Revision (PRC) .

The Chief Minister emphasised the need for a cordial atmosphere between RTC employees and management and called for resolving issues through mutual understanding. He directed that regular meetings be held with unions from the depot level to senior officials and that reviews should be conducted once every three months.

He noted that the government has already taken several steps for the development of RTC. Despite the burden of pending dues from previous governments , he said efforts are being made with sincerity to clear them. He stated that around Rs. 8,000 crore has been provided to RTC through the Mahalakshmi scheme , and Rs. 1,000 crore of pending dues has been released in this cycle. He also recalled that compassionate appointments have been undertaken.

Highlighting the need for financial strengthening, the Chief Minister said that cost reduction and revenue enhancement are essential. He pointed out that RTC spends up to Rs. 2,000 crore annually on diesel , and to reduce this burden, 1,000 electric buses will be introduced. These buses will be integrated with Metro and MMTS services to improve last-mile connectivity .

He further announced that international-standard bus terminals will be developed across 100 acres in Gajularamaram and 150 acres in Bahadurpally near Shamshabad Airport . The Chief Minister assured that no driver will be removed from service . He added that the government would respond positively to issues such as payment of salaries during strike periods and withdrawal of cases , taking appropriate action.

Revanth Reddy urged RTC employees to extend full cooperation for the organisation’s growth, stating that only a strong RTC can benefit everyone . He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making RTC one of the top-performing transport organisations in the country .
