Lenovo Expands Handheld Gaming Lineup With SteamOS Legion Go 2

Lenovo has officially unveiled a SteamOS-powered version of its Legion Go 2 handheld gaming console at CES 2026 , expanding its presence in the fast-growing portable PC gaming market. The new variant, which runs Valve’s SteamOS instead of Windows, is scheduled to go on sale globally from June 2026 , with prices starting at $1,199 .

The Legion Go 2 was first introduced with Windows at IFA Berlin 2025 , and the SteamOS edition arrives four months later with identical hardware but a different software experience. By adopting SteamOS, Lenovo aims to offer a console-like interface with desktop-class performance, targeting gamers who prefer simplicity and seamless access to their Steam library.

This marks Lenovo’s second SteamOS-based handheld , following the Legion Go S that debuted at CES 2025. According to the company, removing Windows allows for faster boot times, improved power efficiency, and features such as quick suspend and resume , similar to traditional gaming consoles.

The SteamOS variant provides native access to Steam features including cloud saves, Steam Chat, and library syncing , though it lacks the broader productivity and software support associated with Windows-based handhelds.

In terms of hardware, the Legion Go 2 (SteamOS) is powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, paired with up to 32GB of 8000MHz LPDDR5X RAM and up to 2TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage. The device features an 8.8-inch WUXGA (1920x1200) OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, 16:10 aspect ratio, and 500 nits peak brightness.

Connectivity options include two USB Type-C (USB 4.0) ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD card slot supporting up to 2TB expansion. Wireless features include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Audio is handled by dual 2W speakers, while design highlights include detachable controllers, hall-effect joysticks, and a built-in trackpad.

The Legion Go 2 weighs 920 grams with controllers attached and will be available in a single Eclipse Black colour option. Lenovo has not yet announced the list of markets where the device will launch initially.
