In a match that swung between frustration and relief, NorthEast United FC showed late resilience to hold Kerala Blasters to a 1-1 draw in an Indian Super League clash in Kochi on Wednesday.

For much of the game, it looked like the home side had done enough to secure all three points. Kerala Blasters found their breakthrough just before halftime, albeit in fortunate fashion. In the 41st minute , a defensive mix-up saw NorthEast midfielder Andy Rodriguez inadvertently turn the ball into his own net, gifting the hosts a crucial lead. The goal shifted momentum firmly in Kerala’s favour, as they controlled proceedings and looked comfortable heading into the latter stages.

However, football often reserves its drama for the final moments, and this game was no exception.

With the clock ticking down and the Blasters edging closer to victory, NorthEast United mounted one last push. Their persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Lalrinzuala stepped up with a composed finish, silencing the home crowd and restoring parity. The late equaliser not only salvaged a point but also highlighted NorthEast’s fighting spirit under pressure.

The result leaves NorthEast United in 10th place with seven points from eight matches, while Kerala Blasters continue to struggle near the bottom, sitting 13th with five points from nine games.

At the top of the table, Mumbai City FC lead with 18 points, followed closely by Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Jamshedpur FC , keeping the title race competitive.

For Kerala Blasters, it was a night of missed opportunity. For NorthEast United, it was proof that belief until the final whistle can still change the story.
