Gujarat Titans pulled off a dramatic heist at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, chasing down Punjab Kings’ 163 with a ball to spare to win by four wickets and tighten the IPL 2026 playoff race considerably.

GT won the toss and opted to bowl, and their pacers made an immediate impact. Mohammed Siraj rattled Punjab in the very first over, dismissing Priyansh Arya for 2 and Cooper Connolly for a golden duck. Punjab never fully recovered from the early collapse. Jason Holder led the charge with outstanding figures of 4 for 24, while Siraj, Rabada, and Holder combined to dismantle the batting lineup, reducing PBKS to 47 for 5. A fighting 57 off 29 balls from Suryansh Shedge and late strikes from Marco Jansen lifted Punjab to 163 for 9.

The chase looked comfortable until it wasn’t. Sai Sudharsan anchored the innings with a composed 57 off 41 balls, reaching his fifty in 37 deliveries before falling at a crucial stage. From there, wickets kept falling, and GT needed 40 off the last 31 balls with the lower middle order under pressure.

The game went down to the final two balls with three needed. Then came the defining moment Washington Sundar produced a sensational scoop off a Marcus Stoinis full toss, sending it over deep backward square leg for six to seal victory with a ball to spare.

The result tightens the points table significantly, with GT joining a cluster of teams on 12 points , while PBKS remain on top with 13 points but now face increased pressure as the playoff race intensifies.
