Lando Norris Keeps F1 Title Hopes Alive With Dutch GP Victory

Lando Norris kept his Formula 1 title defense alive with a dramatic victory at the Dutch Grand Prix, beating championship leader Kimi Antonelli after a bold late-race overtaking move.

Starting from pole, Norris initially lost the lead to Antonelli during a restart following Max Verstappen’s early crash. However, the McLaren driver patiently closed the gap before making his decisive move on Lap 54 of 72, passing Antonelli around the outside of the first corner.

Norris then moved ahead of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton before the end of the lap and held on to victory despite running on older tyres. The win marked his second consecutive F1 victory and reduced some of the pressure surrounding his title campaign.

“This fight is still on,” Norris told his team over the radio after taking the chequered flag. He also urged McLaren to continue bringing upgrades and improving the car as he attempts to close an 83-point gap to Antonelli.

Antonelli finished second after Mercedes ordered teammate George Russell to let him through. The decision came after a risky tyre strategy failed to deliver the expected advantage. Russell initially questioned the instruction over team radio but later admitted it was the right call.

Russell finished third, followed by Hamilton, while Charles Leclerc was fifth. Norris’ McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri took sixth, with Liam Lawson seventh for Red Bull. Nico Hülkenberg finished eighth for Audi, followed by Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly.

The race was interrupted early after Verstappen crashed on the damp track, bringing out a red flag. The Dutch driver said he had misjudged his speed after pre-race rain. The incident ended his final home race in the Netherlands on a disappointing note.

Hülkenberg also narrowly avoided a major collision when Audi teammate Gabriel Bortoleto spun across the track.

With the Dutch Grand Prix set to leave the calendar after this season, Norris’ victory provided a memorable farewell while keeping his championship hopes firmly alive.
