Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has been assigned the additional responsibility of discharging the functions of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir during the absence of incumbent Manoj Sinha.

The decision was announced on Tuesday through an official communication issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, which said Saxena would take on the additional duties during Sinha’s leave.

Sinha, who has served as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir since August 7, 2020, is currently in the United States on an official visit, according to official sources.

The presidential communique said Saxena would continue to perform his existing responsibilities as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh while also handling the functions of the J-K LG until Sinha returns.

The temporary arrangement ensures continuity in the administration of the Union Territory at a time when the LG’s office is required to remain fully operational.

Saxena, who has been serving as Ladakh’s Lieutenant Governor, will therefore oversee the affairs of both Union Territories during Sinha’s absence. His additional charge is an interim administrative arrangement and does not alter the existing appointment of Sinha as Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor.

The move comes against the backdrop of Sinha’s ongoing US visit. Officials did not indicate any change in the permanent leadership of the Union Territory.

The President’s decision formally authorises Saxena to discharge the functions of the Jammu and Kashmir LG alongside his regular responsibilities in Ladakh, ensuring that key administrative matters continue to be handled without interruption.
