Ladakh L-G Hails ITBP Commitment Amid High-Altitude Security Challenges

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General Shatrujit Kapur met Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Tuesday to review the operational preparedness of the force and discuss key issues concerning border management in the Union Territory.

Accompanied by Inspector General Akhoon Saberwal , DG Kapur briefed the L-G on troop deployment, high-altitude security challenges , and ongoing welfare measures for personnel stationed in remote and strategically sensitive areas. Officials said the discussions also focused on strengthening coordination with the civil administration to ensure smooth operations, rapid disaster response, and effective community engagement.

Lt Governor Gupta commended the ITBP for their dedication to safeguarding India’s borders under extreme terrain and weather conditions . He highlighted the force’s critical role in national security , as well as their contributions to disaster management and community outreach initiatives across the region.

The meeting emphasized the importance of troop welfare programs , including accommodation, health facilities, and acclimatization measures necessary for high-altitude deployment. Officials noted that regular reviews like this are aimed at ensuring operational efficiency while maintaining morale and well-being of ITBP personnel.

Security experts said such discussions are routine but crucial, given the strategic importance of Ladakh , which borders China and Pakistan.
