Kuwait Distress Call: AP Government Assures Safe Return of Tirupati Woman

The Andhra Pradesh government has stepped in to rescue Bhagyavathi , a woman from Thondawada village in Tirupati district’s Chandragiri mandal , who is reportedly stranded in Kuwait after falling victim to an alleged job visa scam. The case came to light after the woman sent an emotional video message to her family, describing the abuse and fear she was facing abroad.

According to officials, Bhagyavathi travelled to Kuwait in February this year after being promised employment as a domestic worker. However, she was allegedly sent by agents without proper documentation or a valid work permit. Soon after reaching Kuwait, she reportedly began facing severe physical and mental harassment , leaving her trapped in difficult circumstances.

Unable to bear the situation, Bhagyavathi reportedly pleaded with those around her to allow her to return home. She was allegedly told that she would only be released after paying a large amount of money. In desperation, she recorded a tearful selfie video asking for help and sent it to her family members in Andhra Pradesh. The video quickly spread across social media platforms and drew widespread public attention.

Reacting swiftly to the incident, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to ensure the woman’s safe return to India at the earliest. Following his instructions, the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) established contact with the Indian Embassy in Kuwait to coordinate rescue efforts and travel arrangements.

Officials said the state government is closely monitoring the situation and working with embassy authorities to ensure Bhagyavathi’s safety until she is brought back home. The Chief Minister also instructed all concerned departments to act in coordination and provide every possible support to the victim and her family.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by migrant workers, particularly women travelling to Gulf countries through unverified recruitment agents. Over the years, several workers from Telugu states have reported exploitation, passport confiscation, unpaid wages, and abuse after being recruited through illegal channels.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government has ordered a detailed investigation into the agents accused of sending Bhagyavathi abroad using false or improper visa documents. Police have been asked to take strict legal action against those responsible for the alleged fraud.

District authorities and Chandragiri police are currently in touch with Bhagyavathi’s family and have assured them that the government will stand by them until she safely returns to her hometown.
