Kuldeep Kumar Taken Away at 4 AM? AAP Alleges Police Action Amid Sanitation Workers’ Protest

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday alleged that Delhi Police took its East Delhi MLA Kuldeep Kumar to an undisclosed location in the early hours of the day amid protests by sanitation workers demanding compensation for the family of a deceased worker.

AAP Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that around 20 policemen in plain clothes arrived at about 4 am and took Kumar away. He claimed the MLA had been supporting sanitation workers who were demanding that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta meet the deceased worker’s family and address their demands.

“Today, at 4 am, around 20 policemen came in plain clothes and kidnapped AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar,” Bharadwaj said in a post on X. He alleged that instead of meeting the protesting workers, authorities took the MLA to an undisclosed location.

Bharadwaj also accused Delhi Police of forcibly carrying out the cremation of the deceased sanitation worker. He alleged that police had moved the body from the hospital to the family’s residence and were pressuring relatives to proceed with the last rites.

The allegations came after hundreds of sanitation workers and auto-tipper drivers staged a protest at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital on Monday over the death of Anil, a sanitation worker who was allegedly killed while on duty in Kalyanpuri.

The protesters demanded ₹1 crore compensation for Anil’s family and a permanent government job for one of his family members. They refused to allow his body to be taken from the hospital mortuary for the last rites and warned that auto-tippers could be kept off Delhi’s roads until their demands were addressed.

The protests continued for a second day, with sanitation workers seeking government intervention in the matter.

Delhi Police had not issued an immediate response to the allegations made by the AAP regarding Kumar’s detention and the handling of the deceased worker’s body.
