A high-profile visit by K. T. Rama Rao has brought fresh political focus on the arrest of Manne Krishank, triggering a sharp exchange between the ruling government and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The episode is fast emerging as a key flashpoint in Telangana’s evolving political landscape.

KTR, accompanied by senior leaders including Sabitha Indra Reddy, met Krishank at Sangareddy Central Jail, where he has been in judicial custody for nearly two weeks. Speaking to the media later, KTR accused the Congress government of pursuing “political vendetta” and targeting opposition voices through a series of criminal cases .

According to BRS leaders, Krishank is facing around 35 cases , many of which they claim relate to his political activism and social media activity . KTR described him as an educated lawyer and PhD holder , arguing that branding him a “habitual offender” is unjust. He also questioned why station bail , typically granted in minor offences, was not extended in this case, raising concerns over due process .

The BRS leadership alleges that Krishank was targeted for exposing irregularities in government contracts , benami business links , and grassroots-level governance issues . KTR broadened his criticism to governance priorities, claiming that authorities are focusing more on monitoring online dissent than addressing law and order challenges . He cited incidents of violence, including a daylight shooting in Karimnagar, to argue that public safety concerns are being sidelined.

In a more serious charge, KTR accused the administration of misusing the police and surveillance apparatus , alleging instances of phone tapping, digital monitoring, and pressure on journalists . He further stated that the arrest may have violated procedural safeguards and indicated that the party is considering legal action, including a possible move before the Telangana High Court.

The Congress government, however, maintains that actions against individuals are based on law enforcement grounds . Yet, the opposition insists the case reflects selective targeting .

With political rhetoric intensifying and legal proceedings likely ahead, the Krishank episode has evolved into a broader debate on governance, dissent, and the use of state power in Telangana.
