KTR Targets Congress Over Farmer Promises, Calls for Warangal Show of Strength
The political landscape in Telangana is increasingly revolving around farmers , with K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) intensifying his attack on the ruling Congress government and placing agrarian issues at the center of the opposition’s strategy. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader accused Congress of coming to power on the back of a “misleading farmer declaration” announced in Warangal in the presence of Rahul Gandhi , arguing that the promises made then have failed to deliver tangible benefits even after two years. Framing the issue as both political and humanitarian, KTR announced a massive farmers’ rally in Warangal on May 6, aiming to highlight what he described as unfulfilled commitments and growing distress in the agricultural sector.
At the core of his criticism is the claim that Telangana’s agriculture sector is witnessing renewed stress, with farmers facing shortages of fertilizers and seeds , along with persistent delays in paddy and maize procurement . He further alleged that troubling indicators such as farmer distress and power supply issues for irrigation are resurfacing, reversing earlier gains. By foregrounding these concerns, KTR is attempting to shift the political debate from rhetoric to the realities of farm livelihoods, positioning farmers as the decisive voice in the state’s evolving political narrative.
Beyond criticism, the BRS is moving towards active mobilisation , with internal meetings focusing on strengthening grassroots networks and preparing for upcoming municipal elections , including the Greater Warangal contest. KTR has directed party leaders to accelerate membership drives, build stronger booth-level structures, and ensure coordinated campaigning. He also placed strong emphasis on the ongoing voter list revision , calling it crucial for electoral success, and instructed leaders like Talasani Srinivas Yadav and Padma Rao Goud to oversee efforts in identifying duplicate and bogus votes while ensuring that no eligible voter is excluded.
As the political contest sharpens, KTR’s remarks reflect a broader strategy of combining policy criticism , organisational rebuilding, and voter outreach to challenge the Congress government led by A. Revanth Reddy . With the Warangal rally expected to act as a major political flashpoint, the coming weeks are likely to determine whether agrarian concerns translate into significant electoral momentum, placing farmers once again at the heart of Telangana’s political battle.
