KTR Slams Telangana Government Over BRS Leader Manne Krishank’s Arrest

BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) has strongly criticised the Congress government in Telangana over the arrest of BRS social media convenor Manne Krishank, alleging that the police action amounted to an attack on democratic freedoms.

Reacting on X, KTR targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning the contrast between his public advocacy of constitutional values and the actions of the Congress government in Telangana. KTR alleged that police broke open the door of Krishank’s residence and took him into custody over a social media post critical of the government.

KTR also claimed that the police action frightened Krishank’s young daughter, who was seen crying during the incident. He alleged that the Revanth Reddy government was disregarding democratic principles and judicial directions concerning arrests linked to social media activity.

“Is questioning the government and those in power a crime?” KTR asked, while accusing the ruling party of intimidating opposition leaders and their families. He said the people of Telangana would seek answers from Rahul Gandhi over the alleged excesses.

According to the BRS, police allegedly broke the lock of Krishank’s house with a hammer before entering the premises. The party shared visuals of the incident on social media, claiming they showed Krishank’s daughter holding on to her mother and crying as the police action unfolded.

The arrest is linked to a case registered at Nampally police station over a social media post recently made by Krishank. The post concerned an alleged incident at Saifabad police station, where he claimed that a group of masked men had entered the premises and attempted to attack KTR’s personal assistant and public relations staff.

BRS leaders alleged that 15 masked individuals had attempted to attack KTR’s staff at the police station and that an SI intervened to stop them. The party further claimed that five DCPs had acknowledged the incident and demanded registration of an FIR and release of CCTV footage.

BRS alleged that Krishank was arrested by the Task Force police for raising these questions and accused the government of using police action to suppress criticism. The allegations and claims made by the BRS remain contested, while the police case and circumstances surrounding the arrest are at the centre of the political dispute.
