KTR Seeks Bandi Sanjay’s Ouster After Son’s Arrest In POCSO Case
The arrest of Bandi Bhagirath , son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar , in a POCSO case has triggered a sharp political confrontation in Telangana, with BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao demanded the Union Minister’s immediate removal from the Cabinet to ensure an independent investigation.
Addressing a BRS programme at LB Nagar , KTR said Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s continuation as a Union Minister would cast doubts over the fairness of the probe. He argued that the case involved a minor and required the highest degree of sensitivity, transparency and institutional independence.
Bhagirath was arrested on Saturday night , a day after the Telangana High Court refused to grant him interim protection from arrest. He was later produced before a magistrate, who sent him to judicial custody .
KTR questioned how the accused allegedly remained unavailable to investigators for nearly nine days after the case was registered. He said the probe should also examine who helped him during that period and whether any political influence was used to shield him from the law.
Taking aim at the BJP leadership, KTR referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated emphasis on protecting and educating girls, and asked whether such slogans would have meaning if action was not taken in cases involving influential families. He claimed it was unprecedented for a lookout notice to be issued against the son of a Union Minister and said the Centre could not remain silent.
KTR also alleged that the victim’s family had been pressured and claimed that Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was attempting to downplay the seriousness of the case. There was no immediate response to these allegations from the BJP or the state government in the material provided.
The BRS leader said the party’s women’s wing, student organisations, workers and social media teams had already held protests across the state seeking justice for the victim. He said the agitation would continue until the case reached its logical conclusion.
Linking the issue to broader politics, KTR said Telangana needed the return of the BRS “pink flag” for the state’s future. He said the party’s ten-year rule had combined welfare with development and had not encouraged politics based on caste or religion.
He also announced that the BRS would soon take up a fully digital membership drive , followed by committee formation and booth-level training programmes for party workers.
