KTR says law will take its course in Formula E case

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Friday responded to the Governor’s approval for a prosecution in the Formula E race case, saying the law will take its own course.

Speaking on the matter, KTR reiterated that he has done nothing wrong and said he is willing to undergo a lie detector test at any time. He stressed that the legal process should proceed independently.

KTR also criticized the current Congress government in the state, alleging widespread corruption in the allocation of land to industrialists. He claimed that lands meant for industrial use are being unfairly distributed, leading to large-scale misappropriation.

The Governor, G. Kishan Dev Varma, recently granted permission to the state government to prosecute KTR in the Formula E case. The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had sought approval from the government in September. Alongside KTR, senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar and former Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Chief Engineer B.L.N. Reddy has also been recommended for prosecution by the ACB.

The case pertains to the 2023 Formula E race held in Hyderabad. While preparations for the second edition scheduled for 2024 were underway, the event was canceled after the Congress government came to power in December 2023.

Key allegations include financial irregularities amounting to over ₹55 crore, including payments in foreign currency, violations of regulatory norms, and unauthorized financial transactions. The ACB registered a case against KTR, Arvind Kumar, and B.L.N Reddy in December 2024.

Amid growing political tensions, KTR has maintained his innocence and reiterated his respect for the legal process.
