KTR Says BRS Will Corner Government Over GO 97 In Assembly

BRS working president and Sircilla MLA K T Rama Rao (KTR) has accused the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government of introducing GO 97 to target valuable lands and properties of polytechnic colleges, and said his party would strongly confront the government over the issue in the Assembly.

KTR said the BRS would expose what he described as the government’s alleged attempt to shift the polytechnic education system under the Labour Department during the Telangana Assembly session beginning September 7. He said the party would continue its agitation until GO 97 is withdrawn and the State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET) is retained.

As part of the BRS campaign against what it calls the Congress government’s 1,000-day rule, KTR addressed the ‘Yuva Samarabheri’ at Ambedkar Stadium in Karimnagar on Saturday. Earlier, he visited students of Agraharam Polytechnic College in Vemulawada, who have been protesting against GO 97 for nearly 20 days.

KTR expressed solidarity with the protesting students and alleged that the government was trying to intimidate them by threatening to register cases. He assured the students that they need not fear and said BRS leaders would stand with them.

KTR claimed the government was eyeing valuable polytechnic lands and properties in prime urban locations, including Masab Tank in Hyderabad, Sircilla and Karimnagar. He alleged that these assets could be diverted for purposes unrelated to technical education and warned that the BRS would resist any move that weakened the polytechnic system.

He said Padi Kaushik Reddy and other BRS MLAs would raise the matter in the Assembly and put pressure on the government to clarify the purpose behind GO 97.

KTR also highlighted the BRS government’s record in employment and industrial development. He claimed that initiatives such as TASK and TS-iPASS helped increase IT-sector employment from 3.23 lakh to 10 lakh and contributed to the creation of around 6.5 lakh new jobs during the party’s decade in power.

At the Karimnagar meeting, KTR also targeted Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, questioning Congress leaders’ demand for former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s resignation.

He said the Congress government should instead explain why several election promises remained unfulfilled even after nearly 1,000 days in office. He cited assurances including ₹5 lakh education assistance, scooters, ₹4,000 unemployment support and two lakh jobs annually.

KTR alleged that the promised job calendar had turned into a “scam calendar” and criticised the government over pending fee reimbursement payments, claiming they were affecting students’ futures.

Recalling Karimnagar’s history of political movements, KTR urged students and unemployed youth to intensify their opposition to the government. Former ministers Gangula Kamalakar and Boinapally Vinod Kumar, along with Padi Kaushik Reddy and other BRS leaders, attended the meeting.
