KTR Raises Alarm Over South Backlash, Calls Delimitation a Threat to Federal Structure

A political flashpoint is emerging over the twin issues of delimitation and women’s reservation , with BRS Working President KTR warning that any move undermining the voice of South India could trigger a wider regional backlash. Addressing a gathering in Peerzadiguda, he framed the debate as a test of India’s federalism , cautioning against policy decisions that could disturb the existing balance of representation.

KTR reiterated that his party fully supports women’s reservation , but strongly opposed linking it to constituency delimitation . He alleged that the central government was complicating a straightforward reform by tying it to a lengthy structural exercise. According to him, reservation can be implemented immediately within the current Lok Sabha framework, without waiting for constituency restructuring. He also highlighted Telangana’s track record under KCR , where women were given substantial representation in local governance, as evidence that political will can drive reform without procedural delays.

Raising broader concerns, KTR warned that the proposed changes risk penalizing states that successfully implemented population control measures. He argued that reducing the representation of southern states while increasing seats elsewhere would distort democratic balance and weaken trust in national policy frameworks. Emphasizing the need for due process, he said a comprehensive census must precede any delimitation exercise to ensure fairness and transparency.

Turning to state politics, KTR launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy , describing him as inconsistent and labeling him a “hybrid” leader. He questioned decisions such as the proposed division of Hyderabad , arguing that major governance changes should not be taken without proper consultation or clarity.

Concluding his remarks, KTR called on the Centre to prioritize governance over political strategy and demanded clear assurances that southern interests would be protected. He warned that if such concerns are ignored, regional parties could come together in protest , signaling the potential for a larger political confrontation.
