KTR Pledges Fight Against Singareni Privatisation, Champions Workers’ Welfare
BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to protecting Singareni Collieries Company Limited from privatisation and alleged corruption while fighting for the rights and welfare of coal mine workers. He asserted that the BRS would not remain a silent spectator if workers faced injustice and would not compromise on safeguarding their interests.
Following the successful Singareni Karmika Garjana meeting in Godavarikhani, KTR met BRS MLAs, former legislators, senior leaders from the Singareni region and representatives of the Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday. The discussions focused on the company’s current situation, workers’ grievances, its future prospects and strategies to strengthen the workers’ union. KTR congratulated party leaders, activists and union representatives for organising the meeting successfully within a short period.
KTR called on party leaders to resist attempts to privatise Singareni and question the Congress government over alleged irregularities in the company’s operations and tendering processes. He asked them to take concerns raised at the Godavarikhani meeting to the public, particularly those relating to financial transactions, declining coal production, alleged tender irregularities and funds reportedly due to the company.
He also urged leaders to question both the Telangana Congress government and the BJP-led Central government over their policies concerning Singareni. He stressed the need for a coordinated campaign against decisions that could undermine the company’s interests.
KTR directed party leaders to highlight the welfare measures introduced during the previous BRS government, including profit-sharing benefits, compassionate appointments, medical facilities and assistance to workers’ families. He said the government must be held accountable if it failed to provide workers with their legitimate share of profits, bonuses and other benefits.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Singareni workers’ union elections. KTR asked BRS and TBGKS leaders and activists to prepare for the electoral challenge while strengthening the party’s presence across the Singareni region.
He emphasised that leaders must remain accessible to workers and address their concerns consistently rather than limiting their engagement to election periods.
According to BRS sources, the meeting decided to intensify coordinated efforts to protect Singareni, defend workers’ rights, restore welfare benefits and strengthen TBGKS. The party said it would continue raising issues affecting coal mine workers and opposing measures it believes could harm the company’s future.
