K. T. Rama Rao on Monday promised that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi would provide 24-hour uninterrupted drinking water supply to every household in Hyderabad if the party returns to power, amid rising concerns over the city’s growing water stress and declining reservoir levels.

Addressing an extended meeting of party workers in Kukatpally, KTR said the BRS would replicate in the water sector what it achieved in uninterrupted electricity supply after the formation of Telangana. Recalling the situation during the undivided Andhra Pradesh era, he said people once faced severe power cuts and recurring drinking water shortages under decades of Congress rule.

“After Telangana was formed, the government under K. Chandrashekar Rao successfully implemented 24-hour free electricity and expanded piped drinking water access through Mission Bhagiratha . We will now bring the same determination to ensure round-the-clock water supply for Hyderabad,” he said, adding that he would personally monitor the programme.

KTR’s remarks come at a time when Hyderabad’s water infrastructure is facing mounting pressure due to rapid urban expansion, groundwater depletion and ageing pipeline networks. The city currently depends on multiple sources, including the Krishna river system, Singur, Manjeera, Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar , to meet drinking water demand estimated at nearly 600 MGD .

Officials have recently flagged concerns over falling storage levels in Singur and limitations in the ageing Manjeera network, while tanker demand has surged sharply across several parts of the city. Experts have also warned that excessive groundwater extraction in rapidly growing areas such as Gachibowli, Kondapur and Kukatpally could worsen long-term water sustainability challenges.

Targeting the Congress government led by A. Revanth Reddy, KTR alleged that the ruling party had failed to fulfil key election promises and had neglected Hyderabad’s development. He claimed the government was merely inaugurating flyovers, hospitals and infrastructure projects built during the BRS regime while projecting them as its own achievements.

KTR also alleged that the slowdown in Hyderabad’s real estate and construction sectors had affected thousands of labourers and centering workers. Promising welfare support, he said a future BRS government would introduce dedicated insurance and welfare schemes for construction workers.

On the political front, KTR urged party cadres to remain alert ahead of the proposed voter list revision exercise before the 2027 Telangana Assembly elections and ensure that no genuine voter loses voting rights.
