The controversy surrounding Hyderabad’s ambitious Formula E racing project has entered a decisive phase, with the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) filing a detailed chargesheet that places K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) at the center of the case.

Submitted before the Nampally Court , the chargesheet identifies KTR as the primary accused , while also naming IAS officer Arvind Kumar and HMDA Chief Engineer B.L.N. Reddy among those allegedly involved. The case stems from financial decisions taken during the planning of the second edition of the Formula E race, which was ultimately never held.

At the heart of the investigation lies a ₹55 crore transaction , which the ACB claims was processed in violation of administrative and financial protocols . A key point of scrutiny is the foreign currency transfer to entities linked with the event, raising questions over compliance, approvals, and accountability.

The origins of the controversy trace back to the successful February 2023 race , which boosted Hyderabad’s global image. However, the planned 2024 edition cancellation followed a change in government, with the incoming administration ordering a review of the project.

Investigators allege that after private sponsorship withdrawal , the state government funding stepped in, forming the crux of the case. The ACB contends that this phase involved procedural violations , misuse of public funds , and elements of criminal conspiracy .

The case was registered in December 2024 FIR under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code, after securing required approvals from the Governor approval and Central Government clearance .

Despite the allegations, KTR has strongly denied wrongdoing, stating the funds were meant to enhance Hyderabad’s global reputation and insisting there was no personal gain involved.

With the filing of the chargesheet, the issue has intensified political tensions , setting the stage for a prolonged legal and political battle in Telangana.
