KTR Meets Governor, Seeks Action Over Alleged Assault on BRS MLAs

A BRS delegation on Wednesday approached Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan and submitted a complaint over the alleged treatment of its MLAs, particularly women legislators, by the police. The delegation sought action over the alleged obstruction and assault of BRS MLAs at the Assembly, inappropriate conduct towards women members and remarks allegedly made by a ruling Congress MLA calling for the death of BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

Led by BRS working president KT Rama Rao, the delegation submitted a detailed representation outlining the incidents. KTR said the Governor was also informed about the September 8 protest near KCR’s Erravelli residence, which the party alleged involved Congress workers and groups claiming to represent Dalit organisations. He accused Congress leaders of acting in a provocative manner during the protest.

In its complaint, the BRS alleged that police personnel stopped its MLAs from entering the Assembly through the main entrance on September 7. The party claimed that legislators were pushed, grabbed, beaten and dragged away. It further alleged that women MLAs were subjected to inappropriate physical treatment, including being pushed, held by the throat, pulled by their hair and having their sarees tugged and torn.

The party urged the Governor to obtain detailed reports from the Chief Secretary and DGP on the Assembly incidents. It also sought clarification on the authority used to prevent the MLAs from entering the legislature and whether the Speaker had issued any written instructions.

The BRS separately raised concerns over the safety of KCR following the Erravelli protest. The party alleged that video footage showed a Congress MLA making remarks wishing for KCR’s death and referring to a “death drum” being played. It also alleged that Congress MLAs reached the area with police escort. The BRS claimed the former Chief Minister faced a security threat and urged the Governor to ensure adequate protection.

The party demanded preservation of all Assembly CCTV footage and FIRs against those allegedly responsible for the incidents. It also sought an explanation for the alleged failure to register a case over the remarks concerning KCR’s death.

After the meeting, KTR said the Governor had assured him that reports would be sought from senior officials. He added that the BRS would approach the NCW and NHRC if justice was not delivered. The delegation also raised concerns involving farmers, unemployed youth, students and the demands of protesting polytechnic students.
