KTR Launches ‘One Lakh Signatures’ Drive for Secunderabad Cantonment Merger
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Wednesday officially launched a massive signature campaign demanding the merger of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board with the GHMC . BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao made the first signature in support of the campaign. Party leaders said the initiative aims to convey the aspirations of cantonment residents to the Union government .
The BRS accused certain political forces of turning the cantonment merger issue into a drama for political gains and misleading the public. It asserted that the merger is not a political issue , but a public concern directly linked to the day-to-day lives of residents.
Stating that such a crucial issue requires a non-partisan struggle with a clear roadmap , the BRS said contradictory statements, particularly from BJP leaders , have increased public confusion .
The party said comments by Union Minister Eatala Rajender opposing the merger reflect the BJP’s stand , while criticising the Congress for treating the agitation as a political stunt .
After completing the collection of one lakh signatures , the BRS said the memorandum would be submitted to Eatala Rajender , Defence Minister Rajnath Singh , and Rahul Gandhi , urging collective support beyond party lines for the merger.
