KTR distributes accident insurance cards to auto drivers in Sircilla
At a community outreach programme held at the BRS party office in Rajanna Sircilla, BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao distributed accident-insurance cards to auto drivers. A large number of drivers from across the district attended the event. KTR assured that every auto driver in the district would be provided insurance coverage before the Sankranti festival.
Speaking at the meeting, he recalled the significant role played by auto drivers during the Telangana statehood movement. He said that, just like other backward and working-class communities, auto drivers stood firmly with K. Chandrashekar Rao during the struggles and protests. KTR also praised KCR as the only leader in the country who introduced major insurance schemes for farmers and initiated welfare programmes for workers such as weavers and toddy tappers.
KTR sharply criticised the Congress government, accusing it of deceiving people during its two years in power. He said people were experiencing the “real meaning of change” promised by the Congress. Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s earlier assurances during his ride in auto driver Musharraf Ali’s vehicle, KTR claimed that Ali had since been forced to sell two of his autos and now drives a rented one.
He also alleged that the government had failed to implement its loan-waiver promises to farmers and was making false declarations in temples. According to KTR, the Congress came to power with “420 election promises” but stopped the ₹1,000 monthly support scheme for auto drivers, leaving dues of ₹1,560 crore over the past two years.
KTR further announced that insurance coverage would be extended to all vehicle drivers in the Sircilla district before Sankranti. He warned that the BRS would stage a massive protest in Hyderabad if the government failed to establish the Auto Drivers Welfare Board before the upcoming Assembly session. He also demanded that the state provide ₹10 lakh in compensation to families of auto drivers who died by suicide.
