KTR demands ₹20,000 cr allocation for BC welfare in upcoming budget

Telangana’s BC (Backward Classes) welfare has once again taken center stage as BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) criticized the Congress Party for failing to fulfill pre-election promises and outlined plans for a statewide campaign to safeguard BC rights.

Speaking at a meeting with BC representatives, former MLAs, current legislators, and senior party leaders at Telangana Bhavan, KTR slammed Congress for ignoring commitments made under the BC Declaration. “Before the elections, Congress made grand promises to BCs, but after coming to power, not a single promise has been implemented. We will take this fight for justice to Delhi on a large scale,” he said.

KTR took aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for publicly claiming that Telangana has yet to provide BC reservation benefits. He described these statements as misleading and challenged Rahul Gandhi to raise the issue in Parliament if he truly cared about BC welfare. “If he is serious about BC rights, he should act through a Private Member’s Bill or demand a parliamentary discussion,” KTR said.

KTR also criticized the BJP, noting that while the party frequently talks about BC welfare, it has consistently failed in implementation. From funding reservations to establishing an OBC welfare department, KTR alleged that the central government has repeatedly neglected its responsibilities.

Highlighting Congress’s continued inaction, KTR announced that the BRS will pressure the party to allocate ₹20,000 crore for BC welfare in the upcoming budget. This fund would support education, employment, and government contracts, areas where Congress has made promises but taken no concrete steps.

KTR urged MPs from Telangana, across parties, to raise the BC reservation issue in the upcoming Parliament session. He stressed that all political parties should respond to BC injustices beyond political considerations.

KTR instructed party leaders to bring the BC reservation issue to the grassroots level, ensuring that the public understands Congress’s failures. He emphasized a large-scale awareness campaign to expose the party’s deceit and reaffirmed that the BRS is ready to lead the fight for BC rights across the state.

Former Minister Harish Rao praised former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for extensive programs aimed at BC welfare since the formation of Telangana. He noted that initiatives like special schemes for specific BC communities and setting up educational institutions have boosted confidence within the community.

Former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav criticized Congress for failing to implement its promises to BCs and pledged that the BRS will mobilize party workers to highlight these failures among the public.

The meeting also saw participation from key leaders, including Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Band Prakash, opposition leader in the council Madhusudana Chari, former ministers Srinivas Goud and Gangula Kamalakar, Jogu Ramanna, and former MLC Karne Prabhakar.
