KTR Calls Amara Raja Plant a Result of BRS Efforts, Revanth Backs Policy Continuity

Telangana's efforts to establish itself as a key destination for electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing reached another milestone with the inauguration of Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies' Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) at its Gigacorridor in Mahabubnagar . While the project marks a significant step towards commercial production of advanced battery cells, it also sparked a political debate, with BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy each highlighting their respective governments' role in strengthening the state's industrial landscape.

Reacting to the development, KTR said the Rs 9,500-crore Amara Raja project was one of the largest investments brought to Telangana's energy storage sector during the previous BRS government. In a post on X, he described the commissioning of the Customer Qualification Plant as a crucial link between research and development (R&D) and commercial-scale manufacturing, adding that it would pave the way for the company's Gigafactory , expected to become operational next year.

The Customer Qualification Plant will test and validate battery cells for quality, safety and manufacturing standards before they enter mass production, enabling Amara Raja to supply advanced lithium-ion cells for the rapidly growing EV market.

Earlier, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy inaugurated the EV cell manufacturing facility and reiterated the government's commitment to industrial growth through policy continuity. He said Telangana would continue implementing progressive industrial policies introduced by previous administrations, including those under N. Chandrababu Naidu , Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy , and the BRS government , while advancing its own 'Telangana Rising-2047' vision.

The Chief Minister said the state aims to increase its contribution to India's GDP from around 5 per cent to 10 per cent , with the long-term goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047 .

Industry experts believe the Amara Raja Gigacorridor will strengthen India's domestic Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) battery ecosystem, reduce dependence on imported battery cells, generate thousands of jobs, and position Telangana as a major hub for next-generation energy storage and clean mobility manufacturing.
