KTR Alleges Fund Diversion, Says Farmers Waiting for Rythu Bandhu Support
BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government in Telangana , accusing it of failing to protect farmers’ interests and neglecting key welfare commitments made during the Assembly elections. Addressing a felicitation programme for newly elected councillors in Sircilla district , KTR alleged that the state government had delayed the release of Rythu Bandhu assistance and diverted funds meant for farmers.
He said farmers across the state were still waiting for the seasonal financial support under Rythu Bandhu , which provides investment assistance to cultivators before every cropping season. According to KTR, the Revanth Reddy-led government had repeatedly postponed payments despite the financial distress faced by farmers. He criticised the Congress for promising during the election campaign that the assistance amount would be enhanced, but failing to deliver after assuming power.
Taking a swipe at the state leadership, KTR remarked that the scheme appeared to have turned into “Rahul Bandhu,” alleging that funds allocated for farmers were being redirected to please the Congress high command . He claimed that significant public resources were being diverted every year for political purposes rather than being used to support Telangana’s farming community.
The former minister alleged that the state leadership was prioritising political interests in New Delhi over the welfare of people in Telangana. According to him, public funds were being used to maintain favour with national party leaders, while farmers continued to wait for promised financial assistance.
KTR also criticised the Congress for not fulfilling its flagship “Six Guarantees” announced during the Assembly election campaign. He recalled that senior leaders including Rahul Gandhi , Sonia Gandhi , and Mallikarjun Kharge had assured voters that the guarantees would receive legal backing within 100 days of the party forming the government.
However, he said the government had failed to move in that direction even months after coming to power. The BRS leader accused the ruling party of securing electoral support through ambitious promises but failing to translate them into action.
He said the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) would raise the issue in the upcoming Telangana Assembly sessions and introduce a Private Member Bill seeking legal backing for the six guarantees announced by the Congress. The proposed legislation, he said, would compel the government to formally commit to implementing the promises.
KTR added that since the guarantees were announced by Congress leaders themselves, Congress MLAs should support the bill if they were genuinely committed to fulfilling the assurances given to the people of Telangana. He said the opposition party would continue to exert legislative pressure to ensure the government honours its electoral commitments.
