Krunal’s Grit, DK’s Guidance: The Story Behind RCB’s Batting Revival
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s dramatic last-ball win over Mumbai Indians was not just about survival in the IPL race. It was also a reflection of a batting unit that now looks calmer, smarter, and far more prepared under pressure. According to Krunal Pandya , a major reason behind that transformation is mentor and batting coach Dinesh Karthik .
After battling severe cramps and still producing a match-winning unbeaten 73 off 46 balls , Krunal made it clear that Karthik’s influence on the side has gone far beyond technical inputs. The veteran all-rounder said the former India wicketkeeper has spent countless hours working individually with batters, helping them understand their strengths, weaknesses, and match situations better.
Krunal explained that RCB’s batting approach this season has been built around clarity and planning. Instead of panicking in crunch moments, players now focus on identifying bowlers they can target and maximising those specific overs. That thinking became crucial during the tense chase against Mumbai Indians .
Struggling to even run because of cramps, Krunal realised he could no longer depend on quick singles and doubles. Rather than forcing risky runs, he chose to stay at the crease and attack whenever the opportunity arrived. It was a calculated approach that eventually kept RCB alive till the final ball.
The left-hander also said he enjoys handling difficult situations and takes pride in adapting to whatever role the team demands. Having batted in multiple positions throughout his IPL career, Krunal said he has never chased personal milestones and instead focuses only on what the team needs at that moment.
RCB eventually sealed the thriller with two runs off the final delivery , knocking five-time champions Mumbai Indians out of the playoff race. Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar played a massive role in the victory, producing a brilliant spell of 4 for 23 before smashing a crucial first-ball six in the final over. Despite Krunal Pandya’s excellent batting effort under pressure, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance that helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru pull off a dramatic win.
For RCB , the win was more than just two points. It showcased a team that is beginning to believe in its plans, trust its preparation, and thrive under pressure.
