KPMG India receives international ISO certification for AI systems
KPMG (Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler) in India has received the ISO 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS) certification , a global standard that defines how organisations should establish, govern, and continuously improve systems for the safe, ethical, and transparent use of artificial intelligence . The certification has been awarded by SGS for KPMG in India’s Gurugram and Noida offices .
ISO 42001 is the world’s first dedicated standard for AI management . It provides a framework for organisations to manage AI responsibly, focusing on risk management, data quality, accountability, fairness, transparency, safety, and security . Services covered under this standard include AI strategy and governance, development and deployment of AI models, AI operations and monitoring, data management, and compliance procedures. Essentially, it ensures AI solutions are reliable, ethical, and aligned with organisational objectives .
To obtain ISO 42001 certification, organisations undergo a systematic audit process conducted by accredited certification bodies like SGS. This involves reviewing AI governance policies, operational procedures, risk assessment methods, ethical compliance mechanisms, and continuous improvement practices. Only after successfully demonstrating adherence to these requirements is the certification granted.
