Kovvur Railway Bridge Turns Fatal in Early Morning Crash

A tragic road accident in Kovvur town of East Godavari district in the early hours of Tuesday plunged three families into deep grief. What began as an enthusiastic trip by youngsters to watch a movie ended in a fatal mishap, casting a pall of gloom over the entire area.

On Monday night, Pothugunta Akshay Kumar (20) , Tagarapu Satya Kalyan alias Sunil (20) , and Komiri Edukondalu (18) , all residents of Srinivasapuram in Kovvur , set out on a Pulsar bike towards Rajamahendravaram to watch a movie. At the same time, Anapu Lakshminarayana (34) of the Quarry Market area in Rajamahendravaram was travelling towards Kovvur on an Activa scooter.

Near the 104th pillar on the Kovvur road-cum-railway bridge , the bike and the scooter collided head-on. Due to the severe impact, Akshay Kumar, Sunil, and Lakshminarayana sustained serious head injuries and died on the spot. Edukondalu, who was riding pillion on the bike, suffered injuries and was shifted to the Kovvur Government Hospital in a 108 ambulance. As his condition was critical, he was later referred to a hospital in Rajamahendravaram after first aid.

On receiving information, Town CI P. Vishwam , along with police personnel, rushed to the spot and initiated relief measures. The bodies were sent to the Kovvur Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Traffic on the railway bridge was disrupted for some time due to the accident, but police swiftly restored vehicular movement.

Preliminary investigation suggests that overspeeding and loss of control may have caused the accident. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. The heart-wrenching cries of the victims’ families reflected the immense tragedy of young lives lost in a moment of joy turning fatal.
