A court in Kota, Rajasthan, has sentenced 12 members of a single family , including two women , to life imprisonment in a shocking murder case dating back to 2018. The verdict, delivered by the Additional Sessions Court (Women Harassment), concludes an eight-year-long trial , bringing partial closure to a crime rooted in a seemingly minor dispute.

The case pertains to the killing of 22-year-old Istiyak Hussain alias Guddu , who succumbed to injuries after being attacked with sharp weapons and sticks . The incident occurred on September 1, 2018 , following escalating tensions between two families over a goat-related dispute . What began as a trivial disagreement eventually spiraled into a fatal act of violence.

According to the victim’s counsel, Advocate Raja Jamil , the issue had reportedly been resolved earlier. In an effort to maintain peace, Istiyak approached the accused family for reconciliation talks . However, he was ambushed near a local shop and assaulted by a group of 10–12 individuals. The coordinated nature of the attack helped establish common intention and collective liability during the trial.

The convicted individuals Ramjani, Farjana, Mukhtar, Mustak, Mubarik Ali, Saddam Khan, Shaheen Khanam, Shaharukh, Zaheer Khan, Naimuddin, Shahadatt, and Basheer—are all residents of Bombay Yojana in Kota . Following the judgment, all 12 were taken into custody and sent to prison .

From a legal perspective, the case highlights the role of eyewitness testimony, medical evidence, and motive establishment in securing convictions. The court’s ruling reinforces the principle that group involvement in violent crimes attracts equal accountability under the law.

Importantly, there is no confirmed information yet indicating that the case has reached the Rajasthan High Court . The convicted individuals retain the right to file an appeal under Section 374 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) , but no such proceedings have been reported so far.

The case underscores a broader concern where minor disputes escalate into extreme violence , often driven by family rivalries and weak mediation systems , even during reconciliation attempts. The verdict sends a clear message that such acts will face strict legal consequences , reaffirming that despite delays, the justice system can ensure accountability. The next phase will depend on whether the convicts choose to challenge the verdict in the High Court .
