A major box-office showdown seems to be brewing for mid-2026 as Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor and Kollywood legend Rajinikanth gear up for a potential face-off.

Ranbir Kapoor, who is set to have a blockbuster year in 2026, has two massive projects lined up Ramayana: Part 1 and Love and War . Directed by the acclaimed Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Love and War was initially slated for release on March 19, 2026, but due to delays in shooting, the release has now been pushed to June 2026.

Interestingly, the new release window could lead to a direct clash with Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated sequel Jailer 2 one of the most awaited films from the South. Fans are hoping the sequel will become Kollywood’s first ₹1,000-crore grosser, especially after Coolie narrowly missed the milestone earlier this year.

Bhansali’s Love and War , starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, promises to be an epic romantic saga with the grandeur typical of the filmmaker’s vision. Around 75 days of shooting are still pending, and Bhansali has reportedly asked the lead cast to allocate bulk dates till summer 2026 to complete the film on time.

The film’s teaser, which was originally planned to release on Ranbir Kapoor’s birthday (September 28), has been postponed due to post-production delays.

Meanwhile, Love and War has already avoided one major box-office battle it was previously scheduled to release alongside Yash’s Toxic in March 2026. With that clash out of the way, all eyes are now on the June showdown between Ranbir Kapoor and Rajinikanth, which could turn into one of the biggest cinematic battles of 2026.
