India and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) speedster Harshit Rana is expected to miss a significant portion of the upcoming IPL 2026 season after undergoing knee surgery in February, according to ESPNcricinfo .

Rana, a promising 24-year-old right-arm pacer, had suffered a ligament strain in his right knee during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup warm-up match against South Africa , where he bowled only one over before being forced to withdraw. Since then, he has been undergoing rehabilitation , with the BCCI medical team yet to confirm a definite date for his return. Despite his injury setback, Rana recently received the Best International Debutant award at the BCCI Naman Awards 2026 , highlighting his rising stature in Indian cricket.

In addition to Rana’s absence, KKR will also be without Bangladesh speedster Mustafizur Rahman , who was released from the squad following instructions from the BCCI due to strained geopolitical relations between India and Bangladesh in December–January. To fill this gap, the franchise signed Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani , who recently relinquished his Pakistan Super League (PSL) contract with Islamabad United , according to ESPNcricinfo.

It is important to note that neither KKR nor the IPL has issued an official statement regarding Rana’s unavailability for the bulk of the 2026 edition. The three-time champions will kick off their campaign against five-time champions Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium , Mumbai. The IPL 2026 schedule has been released for only the first two weeks, running from March 28 to April 12 .

The KKR squad for IPL 2026 features a mix of experienced and young talent, including Ajinkya Rahane, Manish Pandey, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Umran Malik, Varun Chakaravarthy, Cameron Green, Matheesha Pathirana, Rahul Tripathi, Tim Seifert, and the newly added Blessing Muzarabani. With key players sidelined, the team will rely on its depth and emerging talent to remain competitive in the tournament.

The absence of Harshit Rana and Mustafizur Rahman posed a challenge for KKR’s pace attack , making their opening fixture against Mumbai Indians crucial for momentum in the early stages of IPL 2026 .
