KKR sign Muzarabani, Zimbabwe pacer exits PSL to join IPL

Three-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders have signed Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani ahead of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a move that has sparked debate as the pacer was earlier contracted to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The issue has drawn attention because the IPL and PSL schedules overlap this year , forcing several international cricketers to choose between the two tournaments. Muzarabani had initially been set to feature in the PSL but later opted to withdraw after receiving an opportunity in the IPL.

The turning point reportedly came when Kolkata Knight Riders began searching for a pace option following the departure of Bangladesh left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman, who had been released by the franchise in December. With a vacancy in their bowling unit, the franchise approached the Zimbabwean quickly.

Soon after the IPL offer emerged , Muzarabani decided to switch leagues and join the Kolkata side. The move has once again highlighted the strong financial and global pull of the IPL , which continues to attract players even when they have commitments in other T20 competitions.

KKR confirmed the signing in an official statement, describing the 6-foot-8 right-arm pacer as one of Zimbabwe’s leading bowlers in the shortest format. Known for his steep bounce and ability to strike in key phases , Muzarabani is expected to add depth to the team’s pace attack.

The tall fast bowler arrives after an impressive run in the recent ICC Men's T20 World Cup , where he finished as the joint third-highest wicket-taker with 13 wickets , helping the Zimbabwe national cricket team reach the Super Eights stage.

Muzarabani, who has more than 90 wickets in over 80 T20 Internationals , is expected to arrive in Kolkata on March 17 as the franchise begins preparations for the IPL season.
