KK Railway Line Is Tribal Lifeline, Not for Relocation: MP Tanuj Rani

Araku Member of Parliament Tanuj Rani has voiced strong opposition to proposals to shift the Kothavalasa–Kirandul (KK) railway line out of the Waltair Division, calling it a critical lifeline for tribal communities .

Speaking to the media on Friday, she criticized attempts to merge the line with the Rayagada Division, warning that such a move could harm the economic interests of tribal regions that rely heavily on the route for connectivity and trade. She said she has been pursuing the matter at various levels to ensure tribal concerns are not overlooked.

Matter Raised with Centre

The MP stated that the issue has already been taken up in Parliament and that she personally met Union Railway authorities to submit a representation . Underscoring the long-standing administrative and economic significance of the KK line, she described it as vital to the region’s development . Any shift in its jurisdiction, she said, could disrupt existing systems and negatively impact local communities.

She reiterated that efforts would continue to press the government to retain the line under the Waltair Division.

Appeal for United Stand

Tanuj Rani stressed that the issue is not political but directly linked to the welfare of tribal populations. She urged leaders and MPs across parties in the state to respond and support the cause.

Having already conveyed her concerns to the Centre, she noted that the final decision now depends on the state government, including the Chief Minister and concerned ministers. She called for collective action , saying only a united approach can safeguard tribal rights .
