Kishan–Abhishek Fire SRH to Stunning 5-Wicket Win After RR’s 228
In a high-scoring IPL thriller, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) produced a commanding five-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) while chasing a massive 229-run target with nine balls to spare , despite a sensational century from teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi .
Sooryavanshi lit up the evening with a breathtaking 103 off 37 balls , registering the third-fastest IPL hundred (36 balls) and his second century of the season. His knock, decorated with 12 sixes and five fours , powered RR to an imposing 228/6 . He reached his hundred with a six off Sakib Hussain and looked unstoppable until a mistimed scoop ended his innings immediately after the milestone.
The 15-year-old had earlier been given a life on 32, a costly dropped catch that proved decisive in RR’s innings. He also benefited from another reprieve when a deep midwicket fielder spilled a tough chance. Sooryavanshi built strong partnerships, including a 112-run stand with Dhruv Jurel (51 off 35 balls) , while RR’s late push came through Donovan Ferreira’s quick 33 off 16 balls .
SRH’s bowling struggled for control, though skipper Pat Cummins (1/27) delivered a disciplined spell. RR’s innings was also boosted by an early platform before SRH struck at intervals, but fielding lapses hurt their cause significantly.
In response, SRH’s chase was powered by an explosive top order. Ishan Kishan smashed 74 off 31 balls , while Abhishek Sharma struck 57 off 29 balls , surviving multiple chances offered by RR’s sloppy fielding. The duo stitched a dominant 132-run stand off just 55 balls , effectively taking the game away from the hosts.
RR tried using as many as eight bowling options , but failed to contain the flow of runs. Key moments included dropped catches off Abhishek Sharma and missed opportunities in the deep that shifted momentum firmly towards SRH.
The finishing touches were applied by Heinrich Klaasen (29) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (36) , who added a crucial 53-run partnership for the fourth wicket to complete the chase comfortably.
SRH’s successful pursuit marked the fourth-highest run chase in IPL history , coming on a day when Punjab Kings had earlier chased 265 against Delhi Capitals in New Delhi.
Despite Sooryavanshi’s brilliance, RR’s fielding errors and SRH’s relentless batting depth ensured a memorable victory for the visitors in a record-breaking contest.
